Asami Kiyokawa and Kohei Nawa's First Duo Exhibition 'Invisible Garden' at Pola Museum Annex, Tokyo

For the first time, artist Asami Kiyokawa and sculptor Kohei Nawa present a duo exhibition titled 'Invisible Garden' at the Pola Museum Annex in Tokyo, from September 16 to November 8. The project was inspired by Kiyokawa's book 'Mienai niwa - Invisible Garden' (Sekai Bunka Sha, 2026), which sparked the idea. The exhibition explores the blurred boundaries between reality and virtuality, nature and artifice in an era of constant information flow.

Through a large-scale installation—including a wall piece about nine meters wide—the duo brings to life a 'garden' populated with tangible and intangible beings: microorganisms, plants, animals, as well as memories, dreams, and imaginaries. The show invites visitors to perceive what remains unseen in our hyperconnected world.

Kiyokawa, born in 1979 in Hyogo Prefecture, is known for her embroidery on photographs, magazines, fabrics, and books. Her practice, which seeks to 'make the invisible visible,' addresses themes such as memory, myth, nature, and imagination in the age of AI across paintings, installations, public art, and video.

Nawa, born in 1975 in Osaka Prefecture, has explored the concept of 'cell' as a fundamental unit since his doctoral studies at Kyoto City University of Arts. Fascinated by the sculptural surface as a sensory interface, he engages viewers with the physicality of objects and challenges traditional definitions of sculpture.

With 'Invisible Garden,' the creators offer a poetic reflection on the coexistence of life forms and multiple realities. Admission is free, and the museum is open daily throughout the exhibition.
