Teodora Axente Unveils Trophy Banner for Palio di Siena Horse Race

Each year, the Tuscan city of Siena upholds a centuries-old tradition by commissioning an artist to create the drappellone, a hand-painted silk banner awarded to the museum associated with the winning horse of the Palio. For the 2026 edition, Teodora Axente, a Romanian-born artist based in Italy, has been chosen to create this iconic work. Axente unveiled her banner on August 13, just days before the race scheduled for August 16 on Piazza del Campo, the city's central square.
