Atelier de Sèvres

Introduction

L'Atelier de Sèvres is a private Parisian art school primarily known for its preparatory classes for entrance exams to higher art and design schools, both in France and abroad.

It offers several distinct tracks: a general prep track oriented toward art, design, and interior architecture schools (Beaux-Arts, ENSAD, ENSCI, regional higher art schools, private schools), and a prep track dedicated to animation film and illustration, geared toward schools such as les Gobelins or Émile Cohl. The school has also developed longer programs in animation.

Strengths

The teaching approach is based on intensive studio work: observational drawing and life drawing, color, volume, photography, engraving or screen printing depending on the track, as well as courses in art history and methodology. For animation, movement drawing, storyboarding, character design, and digital tools are added.

Emphasis is placed on building a personal portfolio and preparing for written exams and entrance interviews, with regular individual follow-up sessions and mock juries.

As with most private prep schools, admission is based on application and interview, and tuition is required: it is worth comparing with public prep programs before committing.
