Université Bordeaux Montaigne is the university of letters, languages, humanities and social sciences of the Bordeaux metropolitan area, located mainly on the campus of Pessac-Talence-Gradignan. Heir to the division of the former université de Bordeaux, it bears the name of Michel de Montaigne and brings together programs in letters, history, languages, information and communication sciences, as well as in arts.

Arts at Bordeaux Montaigne

The Arts pole is attached to the UFR Humanités and offers licence and master programs. It mainly encompasses arts plastiques, arts du spectacle (cinema and audiovisual, theater), music, as well as pathways oriented toward design and cultural mediation. The functioning is that of a university curriculum: practice workshops linked to theoretical teachings (art history, aesthetics, theories of cinema and the performing arts).

The university framework opens access to research (laboratories in arts, aesthetics and communication), to doctoral studies and to teaching professions, as well as to careers in cultural production, programming and mediation.

This type of pathway suits students who wish to combine artistic practice and theoretical culture within a university framework, with public tuition fees — a different profile from an art school (DNA/DNSEP) or a private design school, which are more focused on the studio and the project.
