E.S.AA.T.
ESAAT, a school of applied arts rooted in the textile history of Roubaix
The E.S.A.A.T. (École Supérieure des Arts Appliqués et du Textile) is a public educational institution located in Roubaix, in the Lille metropolitan area. Its identity is closely tied to the industrial textile past of the city: the school was built around training for the trades of fabric, pattern and material, before broadening its offering to the entire field of design.
Programs and disciplines
ESAAT offers a progressive pathway in applied arts, from secondary school to higher education:
- a classe de seconde followed by a baccalauréat STD2A (sciences et technologies du design et des arts appliqués);
- DN MADE programs (diplôme national des métiers d'art et du design, bachelor's level) across several specializations, notably graphisme, matériaux (with a strong textile component), événement, as well as other specializations related to space, object or fashion;
- further studies at DSAA / master's level in design, depending on the specializations available.
The strengths regularly associated with the school are its material-based approach and textile know-how (weaving, printing, surface), a project-based culture, and ties with the regional economic fabric: design agencies, publishers, fashion and furniture industries.
Good to know
As it is a public institution, admission is handled through national procedures (Affelnet for secondary school, Parcoursup for DN MADE programs) with review of application files and portfolios. Check each year with the school which specializations are actually open.
