EBABX Bordeaux

Overview

The ebabx – École supérieure des beaux-arts de Bordeaux is a public institution of higher art education, under the supervision of the Ministère de la Culture and run by the Ville de Bordeaux. It is part of a long tradition of fine arts education in the city, inherited from the drawing and painting academies of past centuries.

Like other French higher art schools, it awards national diplomas within the European framework: the DNA (bachelor's level) after three years, then the DNSEP (master's level) after five years, in art and in design.

Teaching and strengths

The pedagogy is based on studio work, individualized guidance of artistic research, and regular exposure to juries and group critiques. Students explore drawing, painting, sculpture and volume, photography, video and sound, publishing and printed image, digital practices, as well as approaches related to the stage, the body and performance.

The school places significant emphasis on theory (art history, aesthetics, humanities) and languages, as well as on professionalization: internships, workshops with guest artists, exhibitions and projects carried out with Bordeaux's cultural institutions.

Environment

Bordeaux offers a favorable context, with a network of contemporary art venues, festivals and residencies, and opportunities for international mobility through university exchanges.

Admission is by entrance examination (portfolio of works and interview), with possible entry at later stages of the program.
