École Camondo

École Camondo is a private Parisian school of interior architecture and design, founded in the mid-20th century and affiliated with Les Arts Décoratifs, an institution that also runs the musée des Arts décoratifs (MAD) and its associated library. This connection with a reference museum on the history of decor, furniture and objects is one of its distinctive features: students work in an environment where material culture, heritage and contemporary creation intersect.

Training and strengths

The school offers a long, five-year course leading to a state-recognized master's-level diploma, training professionals who are both interior architects and designers. The pedagogy relies largely on the project studio, combined with technical teachings (construction, materials, representation, drawing, model-making) and theoretical ones (history of art and design, humanities).

The themes covered include inhabited space, the design of public and commercial venues, scenography, furniture and objects, with growing attention to the environmental and social challenges of living environments. Internships, workshops and professional partnerships punctuate the course. The school has also established a presence in the Sud region, in Toulon.

Admission is based on an application file and exams, the institution being selective.

Alumni

Among the designers and architects who studied at Camondo are Philippe Starck and Jean-Michel Wilmotte, two major figures of French design and interior architecture.
