Presentation

The Institut supérieur des beaux-arts de Besançon (ISBA) is the city's public higher art school, heir to a long tradition of art education in Franche-Comté. As a higher education institution under the supervision of the ministère de la Culture, it awards recognized national diplomas: the DNA (Diplôme National d'Art, bachelor's level) after three years, then the DNSEP (master's level) after five years.

Disciplines

The program is organized around two main orientations: Art and Communication / design graphique. After a general first year, students deepen their practice in technical workshops: drawing, painting, volume and sculpture, photography, video and sound, publishing, typography, screen printing and printmaking, digital tools.

The school places significant emphasis on printed image work and publishing, as well as on the connection between studio practice and theoretical culture (art history, aesthetics, English). Teaching is based on individual project supervision, workshops with outside contributors, and semester reviews before a panel of teachers.

Context

Located in the heart of Besançon, a university town with listed heritage, the school benefits from a rich cultural environment, notably including the Musée des beaux-arts et d'archéologie and an active local art scene. International partnerships and exchanges (such as Erasmus+) make it possible to complete part of the curriculum abroad.

Admission to the first year is based on application file and interview via Parcoursup; entry at later stages of the program is through an equivalence committee.
