École Estienne

Introduction

Founded at the end of the 19th century, École Estienne — whose full name is École supérieure des arts et industries graphiques — is a public institution located in Paris's 13th arrondissement. It owes its name to the Estienne family, a famous line of humanist printers of the Renaissance, which aptly sums up its identity: a school rooted in the culture of print and publishing, now open to digital practices as well.

Disciplines

Estienne covers the entire graphic chain and book trades:

• graphic design and visual communication;
• typography and type design, an area for which the school is particularly renowned;
• illustration, engraving and printmaking;
• book trades: bookbinding, gilding, finishing, publishing;
• spatial and scenographic design, depending on the tracks offered.

Curricula are organized around the DN MADE (diplôme national des métiers d'art et du design, bachelor's level) and higher-level diplomas at master's level, complemented by technical training. The pedagogy combines hands-on workshops, applied arts culture, and work carried out with real clients.
