Ecole Européenne Supérieure d'Art de Bretagne - Site de Brest

The Brest site is part of the EESAB – École Européenne Supérieure d'Art de Bretagne, a public institution of higher art education made up of four sites located in Brest, Lorient, Quimper and Rennes. This network organisation allows each site to preserve its own pedagogical identity while sharing diplomas, resources and joint projects at the regional level.

Programmes

The school awards the national diplomas of the field of higher art schools:

• the DNA (Diplôme National d'Art), three years after the baccalauréat, equivalent to a bachelor's degree;
• the DNSEP (Diplôme National Supérieur d'Expression Plastique), five years after the baccalauréat, equivalent to a master's degree.

The curriculum begins with a common preparatory year, then specialises through options and areas of focus. As throughout the network, the training combines technical workshops (drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, video, sound, publishing, screen printing, printing, digital) with theoretical teaching in art history, aesthetics and visual culture.

Highlights

Admission is through an entrance examination (tests and an interview with a presentation of a portfolio of personal works); admission during the course of study is possible through an equivalence committee.

The pedagogy is based on individualised follow-up, studio work, workshops with guest artists and progressive support for the development of a personal artistic approach. Located in a port city with strong cultural activity, the Brest site relies on partnerships with contemporary art structures and local exhibition venues, as well as international mobility opportunities via Erasmus+.
