Overview

The École Européenne Supérieure d'Art de Bretagne (EESAB) is a public institution of higher artistic education under the supervision of the Ministère de la Culture. Its distinctive feature: it brings together four sites in Brittany — Brest, Lorient, Quimper and Rennes — within a single structure, allowing for a shared identity while letting each site retain its own character.

The Lorient site hosts a program in art, structured according to the national framework: a first three-year cycle leading to the DNA (Diplôme National d'Art), equivalent to a bachelor's degree, followed by a second two-year cycle leading to the DNSEP, conferred at the master's level.

Pedagogy and strengths

Teaching combines theoretical courses (art history, aesthetics, visual culture, English) with studio practice, along with individualized guidance for the student's personal project. Technical workshops generally cover drawing, painting, sculpture/volume, photography, video, sound, publishing and digital tools.

As throughout the network of French art schools, admission is based on an entrance competition (portfolio review and interview), via Parcoursup for the first year. International mobility (Erasmus+) and exchanges between EESAB sites are part of the curriculum.

In Lorient, the school's smaller scale fosters close mentorship and a strong connection to the local cultural fabric, with exhibitions, workshops and artist invitations.
