Introduction

The École européenne supérieure de l'image (EESI) is a public institution of higher art education under the supervision of the ministère de la Culture, spread across two sites: Poitiers and Angoulême. This two-headed organization is its main distinctive feature: students from one site can benefit from resources, workshops, and events organized on the other.

In Poitiers, teaching falls within the field of contemporary art, with particular attention to image in the broad sense: photography, video, sound, digital and interactive creation, publishing, installation, as well as more traditional practices of drawing, painting, and volume. The Angoulême site is, historically, associated with bande dessinée and animation, in keeping with the local image ecosystem.

Curriculum

The program follows the scheme of French écoles supérieures d'art: a first three-year cycle leading to the DNA (Diplôme national d'art, bachelor's level), followed by a second two-year cycle leading to the DNSEP (master's level). Entry into the first year is by competitive examination, via Parcoursup; admissions during the course of study are possible upon review of the portfolio and personal work.

The school places significant emphasis on research, workshops with guest artists, international exchanges, and partnerships with local cultural institutions (exhibition venues, festivals, university).
