Presentation

The École nationale supérieure d'art de Bourges (ENSA Bourges) is a public institution of higher artistic education under the supervision of the Ministry of Culture. Located in the heart of the historic center of Bourges, it belongs to the network of French higher art schools (ANdÉA) and awards the DNA (Diplôme National d'Art, bachelor's level, 3 years) then the DNSEP (master's level, 5 years), in the Art option.

Pedagogical orientation

The school offers a generalist curriculum in contemporary art, structured around the studio, individual project follow-up and research. Theoretical teachings (art history, aesthetics, humanities) accompany studio practice, with regular assessments and diplomas presented before a jury.

Bourges is particularly recognized for its attention to sound practices and audio art, in a city historically linked to electroacoustic music, as well as to digital arts, video, performance and moving image. The technical workshops also cover publishing and print, photography, volume and exhibition practices.

Environment

The school is a human-scale institution, which fosters close mentoring and access to workshops. It develops projects with local and regional cultural institutions, welcomes guest artists and lecturers, and takes part in international mobility programs (Erasmus+ type exchanges).

Admission is by entrance examination (application file and interview), in the first year or by equivalence for entries mid-course.
