École supérieure d’art d’Avignon

L'École supérieure d'art d'Avignon (ESAA) is a public art school, under the supervision of the ministère de la Culture, which awards recognized national diplomas: the DNA (Diplôme National d'Art, bac+3) and the DNSEP (bac+5, equivalent to a master's degree).

It stands out for its dual orientation. On one hand, an Art program in contemporary creation, where students develop a personal approach through the usual workshops and mediums of art schools: drawing, painting, volume, photography, video, sound, editing, installation and digital practices, accompanied by theoretical teaching (art history, aesthetics, English).

On the other hand, ESAA is one of the few French schools to offer training in conservation-restauration des biens culturels, with a recognized specialization in archaeological objects. This teaching combines workshop practice, materials science, restoration ethics and work on real artworks and objects, in connection with museums, archaeological services and heritage institutions.

The presence of these two tracks within the same institution fosters uncommon exchanges between contemporary creation and heritage know-how.

The school benefits from a rich cultural environment: Avignon, a listed heritage city, hosts the Festival d'Avignon every summer, which brings students closer to the performing arts scene and numerous regional exhibition venues.

As in other écoles supérieures d'art, admission is through an entrance competition (application file and interview), with possible transfers during the course of study.
