Ecole Supérieure d'Art de la Réunion

Presentation

The École Supérieure d'Art de La Réunion (ESA Réunion) is the island's public institution for higher artistic education, located in Le Port. It awards diplomas recognized by the ministère de la Culture and included in the European higher education framework: the DNA (Diplôme National d'Art, bachelor's degree level, over three years) followed by the DNSEP (master's degree level, over two years).

The only art school under the supervision of the ministère de la Culture in the Indian Ocean region, it occupies a singular position: training is nourished by an insular, Creole and multicultural context, and by exchanges with the artistic scenes of the region (Madagascar, Mauritius, East Africa) as much as with mainland French and European networks.

Disciplines and pedagogy

Teaching falls within the field of art (Art option), with a studio-based approach and personal project supervision. Students engage in particular with drawing, painting, sculpture and three-dimensional work, photography, video and moving image, installation, publishing and digital practices, complemented by theoretical courses (art history, aesthetics, general culture) and languages.

As in other French art schools, the first year is common to all students, with admission by entrance competition (portfolio, tests, interview) via Parcoursup; admissions during the course of study via an equivalence committee are also possible.

The curricula draw on workshops with guest artists, exhibitions and local cultural partnerships.
