The École supérieure d'art et de design d'Orléans (ESAD Orléans) is a public institution of higher artistic education under the supervision of the ministère de la Culture, located in the heart of the historic center of Orléans.

It awards recognized national diplomas: the DNA (Diplôme national d'art, bachelor's degree level) after three years, then the DNSEP (Diplôme national supérieur d'expression plastique, master's degree level) after two additional years.

Disciplines and orientations

The school is structured around the Art and Design options, which sets it apart from many art schools focused exclusively on visual practices. Design holds a historic and structuring place there, with attention paid to objects, materials, space, images, and editorial forms.

The pedagogy is based on a general first year (drawing, color, volume, image, artistic culture), followed by a gradual specialization in studio work, combined with theoretical courses (history of art, of design, aesthetics) and workshops with outside speakers.

ESAD Orléans also develops research activity in art and design, with programs and publications, and is part of an active regional cultural environment, notably alongside the Frac Centre-Val de Loire, known for its collections of experimental architecture.

Good to know

Admission in the first year is by entrance examination, via Parcoursup; entry during the course of study is possible through an equivalence committee upon presentation of a portfolio of personal work.
