The École supérieure d'art et design Grenoble-Valence (ESAD) is a public institution of higher art education under the supervision of the ministère de la Culture, born from the merger of the art schools of Grenoble and Valence. It operates on two complementary sites, each with its own pedagogical character.

The Valence site is primarily identified with the Design graphique option, with strong attention given to typography, publishing, printed image and digital and interactive forms. Teaching combines studio practice, visual culture, theory and commissioned or partnership project work.

Curriculum

As in all French higher art schools, the program is organized into two cycles: a first three-year cycle leading to the DNA (Diplôme national d'art, bachelor's degree level), followed by a second two-year cycle leading to the DNSEP (master's degree level). Admission is by entrance examination, with the presentation of a portfolio of personal work and an interview.

Strengths

The technical workshops (printing, screen printing, photography, digital) and the international dimension (exchanges, workshops with guest designers) are important pillars of the program. The context of a two-site institution also allows for bridges and joint projects between the fields of art and design.
