ESADHaR (École Supérieure d'Art et Design Le Havre-Rouen) is a public institution of higher artistic education under the supervision of the Ministère de la Culture, born from the merger of the art schools of Le Havre and Rouen. It operates on two complementary sites in Normandy, including the one in Rouen, located in the heart of the city.

The course of study follows the model of French higher art schools: a first three-year cycle leading to the DNA (Diplôme National d'Art, bachelor's level), followed by a second two-year cycle leading to the DNSEP (master's level). Admission is by entrance examination, with the presentation of a portfolio of personal work.

Disciplines and specificities

The Rouen site primarily develops the Art track, with studios covering painting, drawing, three-dimensional work, photography, video, sound, publishing, and digital practices.

Its most identifiable particularity is the attention paid to writing and literary creation: the school was one of the first in France to link visual practice and writing within an art curriculum, with teaching and research focused on text, publishing, and the artist's book.

The institution relies on a network of cultural partners in Normandy (art centers, festivals, literary organizations) and on research programs bringing together artists, authors, and theorists. International exchanges and workshops with outside contributors are part of the curriculum.
