École supérieure des beaux-arts de Nîmes

Presentation

The École supérieure des beaux-arts de Nîmes (ESBAN) is a public institution of higher artistic education under the supervision of the Ministère de la Culture, located in the heart of Nîmes. Like other French public higher art schools, it is a member of the national network of art schools and awards recognized diplomas, integrated into the European higher education framework (LMD).

Its main program leads to the Diplôme National d'Art (DNA), option Art, at bac+3 level, accessible through an entrance competition after the baccalauréat via Parcoursup. It is a human-scale school, focused on a single option, which fosters individualized guidance and a direct relationship between students, artist-teachers, and studios.

Strengths

The curriculum combines artistic practices and theoretical teachings: drawing, painting, volume and sculpture, photography, video and moving image, sound, publishing and digital practices, complemented by art history, aesthetics, and general culture. Emphasis is placed on developing a personal approach, research, and the presentation of work (hangings, exhibitions, semester reviews).

The school benefits from a rich cultural environment — Carré d'Art–Musée d'art contemporain de Nîmes, regional scene and art centers of the South — which nurtures encounters, workshops, and projects with invited artists and professionals.

Good to know

Students wishing to continue to master's level (DNSEP, bac+5) should inquire directly with the school about current pathways and partnerships, as well as the precise terms of the entrance competition.
