ÉESI Angoulême-Poitiers

Presentation

The ÉESI (École européenne supérieure de l'image) is a public higher art school located on two sites, Angoulême and Poitiers. It awards the national diplomas of the art school network under the supervision of the Ministry of Culture: the DNA (bac+3) and the DNSEP (bac+5, equivalent to a master's degree).

Its distinctiveness lies in its grounding in the field of image, understood in a broad sense: visual arts, printed image and graphic narration, video, sound, photography, digital and interactive creation, performance. In Angoulême, the school benefits from an exceptional environment for comics and animated image, the city hosting the Festival international de la bande dessinée and the Cité internationale de la bande dessinée et de l'image, as well as a dense network of studios and publishing houses.

Strengths

  • Studio-based teaching, grounded in personal projects and individualized guidance.
  • Strong attention given to comics and drawn narrative forms, as well as to digital writing and media arts.
  • An affirmed European and international dimension (exchanges, partnerships, residencies).
  • Third-cycle and research offerings centered on comics and contemporary creation, within the framework of research in art schools.

Who the school is for

For students wishing to build an author's or artist's approach rather than a strictly professionalizing training: admission is by entrance competition, with the presentation of a portfolio of personal works.
