ENSA Bourges

The École nationale supérieure d'art de Bourges (ENSA Bourges) is a public institution of higher artistic education under the supervision of the Ministère de la Culture. It is part of the network of écoles nationales supérieures d'art and awards recognized diplomas: the DNA (bac+3) and the DNSEP (bac+5), which respectively confer the grade of licence and the grade of master.

Orientation

Unlike schools offering several tracks, ENSA Bourges is centered on a single option: Art. The curriculum is conceived as an individual path of artistic research, guided by teaching artists and theorists, with a strong emphasis on experimentation and critical engagement.

The school is particularly known for its work in sound creation — a historical anchoring linked to the tradition of electroacoustic music in Bourges — as well as for moving image, video, photography and documentary practices. The technical workshops also cover volume, sculpture, editing, screen printing and digital tools.

Research and environment

ENSA Bourges develops third-cycle and research activity, particularly around the links between contemporary art and document. Its small size fosters individualized guidance and a direct relationship with the workshops.

Admission

Entry is by competitive examination (portfolio and interview), with the possibility of mid-course admission through an equivalence committee.
