ENSBA Lyon

The École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts de Lyon (ENSBA Lyon) is a public institution of higher artistic education, under the supervision of the ministère de la Culture. Its origins go back to the Lyon drawing schools of the 18th century, long linked to the city's silk industry and decorative arts.

Since 2007, it has been housed on the site of the Subsistances, a former convent and then military barracks on the banks of the Saône, which it shares with a creation venue dedicated to the performing arts — a proximity that fosters transdisciplinary projects.

Disciplines

The school awards the national diplomas of the art schools curriculum: the DNA (bachelor's level) then the DNSEP (master's level), organized around two main tracks, Art and Design. Teaching relies on technical workshops (volume, printing, image, sound, digital) and on individualized project supervision, with significant emphasis placed on theoretical seminars and the writing of the mémoire.

ENSBA Lyon also develops research activity in art and design, post-diploma programs, and international partnerships enabling exchanges and study periods abroad.

Good to know

Applications are made through an entrance competition for first-year admission, or through an admission committee for entry partway through the curriculum. As in most public art schools, the portfolio of personal work and the interview are decisive.
