ESAC Cambrai
Presentation
L'École supérieure d'art de Cambrai (ESAC) is a public institution of higher artistic education located in the Nord, in the Hauts-de-France region. It is part of the network of higher art schools under the supervision of the ministère de la Culture and prepares students for national diplomas: the DNA (Diplôme national d'art, conferring a bachelor's degree) then the DNSEP (Diplôme national supérieur d'expression plastique, conferring a master's degree).
Orientation and strengths
Unlike generalist art schools, the ESAC has chosen a focused specialization around graphic design. Teaching here brings together typography, layout, printed and digital image, visual identity, as well as a strong focus on publishing and forms of the book.
Technical workshops (printing, screen printing, digital studio, photography) occupy a central place: the project is built there through material experimentation as much as through theoretical reflection, nourished by courses in the history of art, design, and media.
Who it is for
The modest size of the institution fosters individualized guidance and a close-knit studio life. The school suits students who wish to engage early in a graphic design practice, with a sensitivity for typography, publishing, and formal research, rather than in a broad multidisciplinary curriculum.
Admission is based on an entrance competition, application file, and interview.
