ESAD Amiens

ESAD Amiens

The École supérieure d'art et de design d'Amiens is a public institution of higher artistic education, under the pedagogical oversight of the ministère de la Culture. It awards national diplomas (DNA over three years, DNSEP over five years) equivalent to a bachelor's and master's degree.

A strong design orientation

Unlike many generalist art schools, ESAD Amiens has built its identity around graphic design understood in a broad sense: typography, editorial design, printed image, signage and visual identities, but also digital and interactive design, motion and multimedia narration.

Typography constitutes one of its most recognized areas, driven by practical teaching (type design, composition) backed by historical and theoretical reflection. The school has developed research activity and a third cycle devoted to typography and language, which connects it to the international network of type designers and researchers in the field.

Pedagogy and environment

The workshops (printing, screen printing, publishing, photography, digital tools) support project-based pedagogy, with workshops, invited practitioners and work on real commissions. The curriculum gives significant space to writing, visual culture and internships, preparing students both for studio or freelance practice and for continuing into research.

Among the figures associated with the school, typography historian Sébastien Morlighem has taught there and led his research work in typography.
