ÉSAD Grenoble-Valence

ÉSAD Grenoble-Valence is a public higher school of art and design, born from the merger of the art schools of Grenoble and Valence, brought together within a single institution with two sites. It awards national diplomas recognized in higher art education: the DNA (bachelor's level) and the DNSEP (master's level), both conferring bachelor's and master's degree status.

Disciplines and orientations

The Grenoble site is mainly oriented towards art: contemporary visual practices, image, volume, installation, sound, video, publishing and critical writing. The Valence site combines art and graphic design, with particular attention paid to typography, publishing, printed image and digital media.

As in French higher art schools, teaching is based on studio work, individualized project supervision, workshops with outside contributors and theoretical courses (art history, aesthetics, visual culture). Technical workshops — printing, screen printing, photography, volume, digital — occupy a central place in the pedagogy.

Context

The school is part of an active cultural fabric: Grenoble notably hosts the Magasin (contemporary art center) and the Musée de Grenoble, while Valence benefits from a network linked to publishing and graphic design. International partnerships and Erasmus-type exchanges complete the curriculum.

Admission is through an entrance competition (application file and interview) after the baccalauréat, with possibilities of entry during the course of study through an equivalency committee.
