ESADSE Saint-Étienne

ESADSE (École supérieure d'art et design de Saint-Étienne) is a public higher education institution for the arts, heir to a long tradition of training linked to the city's industrial and manufacturing history.

It offers training in two tracks, Art and Design, leading to national diplomas recognized by the Ministry of Culture: the DNA (bachelor's level) then the DNSEP (master's level), complemented by third-cycle and research programs.

Its distinctiveness lies in its institutional connection with the Cité du design, with which it forms a single establishment, on the site of the former Manufacture d'armes de Saint-Étienne. This proximity places students in direct contact with design research, exhibitions, and the Biennale internationale design Saint-Étienne, a major design event in France, where student work is regularly presented.

The school's strengths align with this orientation: object and product design, graphic and digital design, space and service design, as well as contemporary plastic arts practices (sculpture, image, publishing, sound, video). Technical workshops—wood, metal, ceramics, screen printing, printing, digital prototyping—occupy a central place in the pedagogy.

As Saint-Étienne is a member of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network for design, the school is part of a dense local ecosystem bringing together local authorities, businesses, and laboratories, with numerous international partnerships and workshops conducted with professionals.
