ESRA - Rennes

Overview

ESRA (École Supérieure de Réalisation Audiovisuelle) is a private film and audiovisual school founded in Paris in the early 1970s, now established on several campuses, including the one in Rennes. It is among the historic private schools in the sector in France and trains image and sound professionals.

Training and pedagogy

The main curriculum is a three-year program after the baccalauréat, accessible on application and interview, organized around a common foundation (film culture, writing, film analysis, shooting techniques) followed by progressive specialization: directing, cinematography, editing, production, screenwriting. The school also offers programs dedicated to sound through its ISTS department.

The pedagogy is strongly oriented toward practice: filmed exercises starting in the first year, workshop short films, teamwork reproducing the roles of a professional set, followed by a graduation film. Teaching is largely provided by professionals from the field (directors, cinematographers, editors, sound engineers).
