Haute école des arts du Rhin - Site d'arts plastiques de Mulhouse

Presentation

The visual arts site in Mulhouse, known as Le Quai, is one of the campuses of the Haute école des arts du Rhin (HEAR), a public institution of higher art education born from the merger of the Strasbourg and Mulhouse art schools and Strasbourg's musical education. It inherits a long tradition as a municipal art school in a city marked by its industrial and textile history.

Programs

The curriculum follows the national framework of higher art schools: three years leading to the DNA (Diplôme National d'Art, bachelor's degree), followed by two years leading to the DNSEP (master's degree). Admission is through an entrance competition, with the presentation of a portfolio of personal work.

In Mulhouse, teaching is structured around art and textile design, the latter orientation constituting a strong specificity of the site, resonating with Mulhouse's textile heritage and local resources such as the Musée de l'Impression sur Étoffes.

Strengths

The pedagogy is based on studio work, individualized guidance of the artistic project, and a set of technical workshops (sculpture, printing, screen printing, image, textile). Belonging to HEAR allows for bridges and joint projects with the Strasbourg sites, as well as an openness to the Rhine region and international exchanges.
