HEAR – Haute école des arts du Rhin

The HEAR (Haute école des arts du Rhin) is a public institution for higher artistic education, created in 2011 through the merger of the École supérieure des arts décoratifs de Strasbourg, the Mulhouse art school, and the region's higher music training programs.

It is one of the few French art schools to bring together visual arts, design, and music within a single institution, spread across several sites in Strasbourg and Mulhouse.

The visual arts and design programs lead to the DNA (bac+3) and the DNSEP (bac+5), which carries master's degree status; the music programs, run by the Académie supérieure de musique de Strasbourg in partnership with the conservatoire and the university, lead to the DNSPM.

Among the available specializations: art, graphic communication, illustration, visual didactics, scenography, design, object and jewelry design, as well as textile design in Mulhouse. The school is particularly renowned for its workshops related to printed image and illustration, a tradition established in Strasbourg by the workshop founded by illustrator Claude Lapointe, and for the importance given to workshop craftsmanship (engraving, screen printing, sculpture, textile).

Its cross-border location fosters exchanges with Germany and Switzerland, and the school maintains a strong ongoing program of exhibitions, publications, and professional projects.
