Overview

The Institut Catholique de Paris (ICP) is a private institution of higher education founded in the 19th century, historically based on rue d'Assas in Paris. Recognized as a private institution serving the public interest, it brings together faculties of letters, philosophy, social sciences, education, and theology.

In recent years, the ICP has opened regional campuses, including one in Rouen, which offers a licence program in a deliberately compact format: small groups, individualized follow-up, close supervision, and a hands-on teaching approach, in the spirit of a "collège universitaire."

Program and strengths

The Rouen campus notably hosts the Licence Histoire de l'art et archéologie (accessible via Parcoursup at L1 level). The curriculum combines the fundamentals of the discipline — art history of the ancient, medieval, modern, and contemporary periods, archaeology, methodology of artwork analysis, iconography — with a general culture in history, languages, and the humanities.

The Norman environment provides a privileged field of study: Gothic architecture and medieval heritage of Rouen, museums of the Métropole, the Impressionist legacy of the Seine valley, restoration projects and regional archaeological sites. Field visits and meetings with heritage professionals generally complement the academic teaching.

Who this program is for

Students aiming for careers in heritage, museums, the art market, cultural mediation, or research, who prefer a supervised study environment to that of a large university. Continuing on to a master's degree (in Paris or elsewhere) is the usual path after the licence.
