The isdaT (institut supérieur des arts et du design de Toulouse), long known as the Institut supérieur des arts de Toulouse, is a public institution of higher artistic education under the supervision of the ministère de la Culture. It emerged from the merger of the former école des beaux-arts de Toulouse and the region's centre d'études supérieures de musique et de danse, making it a fairly rare case in France: a single school brings together visual arts, graphic design, music and dance.

Programs and strengths

The beaux-arts department awards the DNA (bac+3, licence level) then the DNSEP (bac+5, master level), with tracks in art and graphic design. Teaching is built around studio work, technical workshops (sculpture, publishing, screen printing, photography, video, sound, digital), and individualized guidance on the student's personal project, punctuated by reviews and a diploma defended before a jury.

The performing arts department prepares students in particular for the diplômes nationaux supérieurs professionnels de musicien and the diplômes d'État de professeur de musique et de danse, in connection with the conservatoires and cultural institutions of the area.

Good to know

Admission into the first year of the beaux-arts program is by entrance competition via Parcoursup (portfolio of work and interview), with possibilities of mid-course entry through an equivalence committee. The school is based in Toulouse, a university city with a dense network of contemporary art venues and music scenes, favorable to internships and collaborations.
