Lycée Bonaparte

Lycée Bonaparte is a public educational institution located in Autun, in Burgundy (Saône-et-Loire). Its name refers to Napoléon Bonaparte, who stayed as a child at a secondary school in Autun before continuing his military schooling.

Alongside its general and technological programs, the institution offers higher education in applied arts with a DN MADE mention Objet (Diplôme national des métiers d'art et du design), a bachelor's-level diploma awarded over three years.

Content and Approach

The Objet mention addresses the design of objects and products: exploration of forms, ergonomics and uses, materials and manufacturing processes, prototyping and models, technical drawing and digital tools (CAD, 3D modeling). This project-based teaching is accompanied by theoretical courses (culture of arts, design and techniques) and practical art activities.

As in all DN MADE programs, the training combines studio work, supervised projects, professional internships and progression toward a personal diploma project in the third year. The curriculum prepares students for professional integration in product design, spatial design or industry, as well as for further studies at master's level, in a higher school of art and design, or in DSAA.

Being located in a medium-sized town with ancient heritage offers a human-scale working environment, with small class sizes and individualized guidance, in an area marked by industrial and craft expertise.
