Lycée Charles A. COULOMB

Le lycée Charles-Augustin Coulomb is a public educational institution located in Angoulême, in Charente (Nouvelle-Aquitaine). Like several French lycées, it offers, beyond secondary education, short-cycle higher education programs: it notably offers the DN MADE (Diplôme national des métiers d'art et du design), a bachelor's-level diploma awarded over three years.

Two specializations are accessible there after the baccalauréat: Objet and Espace. The Objet specialization covers the design of products and objects — exploration of forms, materials, uses, prototyping, industrial or artisanal dimension. The Espace specialization focuses on interior design, scenography and inhabited space, from the analysis of a place to the representation of the project.

The pedagogy of the DN MADE is based on an alternation between practical workshop teachings (drawing, volume, model-making, digital tools), theoretical teachings (culture of arts, design and techniques, foreign language, sciences and technology) and supervised projects. Internship periods and a thesis accompany the student's growing autonomy, with a view toward professional integration or further studies at the master's level, in a design school or an art school.

Angoulême constitutes an interesting environment for students in creative fields: the city hosts a hub of education and industries related to image (bande dessinée, animation, video games), which fosters cultural life and professional encounters useful for creative profiles.
