Lycée Jean Monnet

The Lycée Jean Monnet, in Saint-Étienne, is a public institution that hosts, alongside its secondary programs, a higher education division in applied arts. It offers the DN MADE (Diplôme National des Métiers d'Art et du Design), a three-year program conferring the grade of licence, accessible after the baccalauréat.

Disciplines

Two specializations are offered there:

• Espace: interior architecture, scenography, spatial planning, environment and space design;
• Objet: product design, furniture, volume, the relationship between materials, uses and manufacturing processes.

The DN MADE pedagogy combines project workshops, theoretical teaching (history of design, culture of arts and techniques), representation tools (drawing, model-making, 2D/3D software) and manufacturing practices. The program includes internships and commissioned projects, with a specialization year and a thesis or diploma project at the end of the course.

Context

The school benefits from its location in Saint-Étienne, a city that is a member of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network for design, which hosts the Cité du design and the Biennale internationale design. This environment gives students access to exhibitions, conferences and a local network of companies, workshops and agencies, particularly in the industry, furniture and spatial planning sectors.

Admission is through Parcoursup, based on application file and personal work; a portfolio is generally expected.
