Lycée Joseph Savina

Lycée Joseph Savina is a public school located in Tréguier, in the Côtes-d'Armor (Brittany). A comprehensive lycée, it offers general, technological and vocational programmes, as well as a higher education arts appliqués unit, making it one of the few institutions of this type in the Trégor region.

The school is named after Joseph Savina (1901-1983), a cabinetmaker and sculptor from Tréguier, known for his collaboration with Le Corbusier, with whom he created a series of wood sculptures. This reference to a Breton artisan-sculptor echoes the importance given to materials and workshop practice in the school's pedagogy.

Programmes and strengths

The lycée offers the DN MADE (Diplôme national des métiers d'art et du design), a three-year diploma conferring the grade of licence, with two orientations:

• mention Matériaux: an approach to design through material experimentation, fabrication, processes and craftsmanship;
• mention Graphisme: visual identity, typography, editorial design, visual communication.

The training combines courses in arts, design and technical culture, project workshops, studio work and internship periods, with a progression toward project autonomy in the third year. The DN MADE then allows students to continue on to a DSAA, an école supérieure d'art or de design, or to enter professional life.

The school's modest scale and its local roots foster close mentoring and ties with the local artisanal and cultural fabric.
