Lycée René Descartes

The lycée René Descartes, a public institution located in Cournon-d'Auvergne, in the Clermont-Ferrand metropolitan area, is one of the lycées that host higher education programs in design and creation. It offers in particular DN MADE tracks (Diplôme National des Métiers d'Art et du Design), a three-year, bachelor's-level diploma accessible after the baccalauréat.

Two specializations are represented there: Animation and Espace. The Animation specialization covers the languages of moving image: drawing, storyboard, character design, 2D/3D animation, editing and sound, narration. The Espace specialization focuses on layout and scenography: interior spaces, interior architecture, furniture, museography, signage and relationship to place.

As in all DN MADE programs, the pedagogy is based on an alternation between practical workshop teaching (project, drawing, model-making, digital tools) and theoretical teaching (history of art and design, visual arts culture, technologies, English). The curriculum includes internship periods and a personal end-of-program project, with the possibility of continuing on to a DSAA, a master's, or a higher school of art and design.

Its location in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, near Clermont-Ferrand, provides access to cultural resources and the local professional network (audiovisual, communication, planning).

Admission is through Parcoursup, based on an application file generally including personal work: it is advisable to prepare a portfolio as early as the terminale year.
