Lycée Vauban

Presentation

The lycée Vauban is a public institution in Brest which, alongside its general and technological programs, hosts a higher education division in design and applied arts. It is one of the rare public structures in Finistère to offer a post-baccalaureate curriculum in design, making it an interesting option for students wishing to train in western Brittany, within a school setting with reduced fees.

Programs and orientations

The school prepares students for the DN MADE (Diplôme national des métiers d'art et du design), a bachelor's-level diploma completed over three years, with two specializations:

• Objet: product design, furniture, everyday objects, reflection on function, ergonomics and uses;
• Matériaux: exploration of materials, textiles, ceramics, shaping processes and constructive experimentation.

The teaching combines studio project courses, culture of arts, design and techniques, plastic arts practices, drawing, model-making and digital tools. Students work on projects and micro-projects, often in connection with professional or cultural partners in the region, and complete an internship. The dissertation and the final-year project are defended in the third year.

After the DN MADE

The diploma allows entry into the job market (studios, agencies, workshops, industrial or artisanal companies) or continuation into a DSAA, a master's degree, or a higher school of art and design.

Admission is through Parcoursup, based on application (transcripts, motivation project, personal work).
