Strate École de Design
Overview
Strate École de Design is a private institution of higher education in design, located in Sèvres, in the western suburbs of Paris, and founded in the early 1990s. It has also established a campus in Lyon.
The school trains designers for industry and services, with a five-year curriculum structured around a common foundation of fundamentals (drawing, volume, design culture, project methodology) followed by a specialization at the master's level.
Disciplines and strengths
Strate is particularly recognized for its teaching of mobility and transportation design, a specialty rarely offered in France, alongside product design, interaction and digital design, space design, and programs combining design, innovation, and management.
The pedagogy relies heavily on instructors from the professional world and on projects conducted in connection with companies and laboratories, giving a strong orientation toward "applied industrial design." The school also develops work around cognitive science and usage, as well as an international dimension through academic partnerships.
Good to know
Strate is a private school: tuition fees are significant and admission is based on application review, tests, and interview. It is recommended to check directly with the school regarding the level of recognition of the degrees (titre visé, grade, RNCP registration) for the year concerned, as well as the terms for work-study programs or internships.
