Université Bordeaux Montaigne is a public university specializing in the arts, humanities, languages, social sciences and information and communication sciences. Heir to the former Bordeaux 3 university, it bears the name of Michel de Montaigne and occupies a campus located in Pessac, in the Bordeaux metropolitan area, connected to the city center by tramway.

Artistic programs

In the artistic field, the university offers three main bachelor's degrees (licences) accessible after the baccalauréat:

• Arts (visual arts, with a link between artistic practice and art theory);
• Arts du spectacle, which brings together tracks in theater studies and in film and audiovisual studies;
• Histoire de l'art et archéologie, backed by a solid research tradition in ancient archaeology and art history.

These licences continue into master's programs (research, creation, cultural professions, heritage) and into doctorates within the institution's doctoral schools.
