Université Clermont Auvergne

Overview

Université Clermont Auvergne (UCA) is a public multidisciplinary university located in Clermont-Ferrand, born from the merger of the former Université d'Auvergne and Université Blaise Pascal. It covers the full range of major academic fields: humanities, law, economics and management, science and technology, health.

Artistic programs are hosted by the department dedicated to letters, culture and humanities, on the city-center campuses. Notably, it offers a Arts du spectacle bachelor's degree and a Histoire de l'art et archéologie bachelor's degree, extended by master's programs and supported by research laboratories (history, archaeology, arts and culture studies).

Strengths

  • Academic and theoretical approach: history of forms, aesthetics, analysis of works and performances, research methodology, with a component of supervised practice in performing arts (theater, cinema depending on the track).
  • Strong local anchoring: Auvergne offers a rich setting of Romanesque heritage, archaeological sites and museums, useful for fieldwork and internships.
  • Typical career paths: cultural mediation, heritage, documentation, teaching, cultural administration and production, further studies at master's or doctoral level.

Good to know

As in any university, admission to the bachelor's program is through Parcoursup, with no artistic entrance exam: the expected profile is that of a student interested in reading, writing and analysis. For a program centered on plastic arts practice, it is better to compare with écoles supérieures d'art or arts plastiques programs.
