Université d'Amiens

« Université d'Amiens » refers to the Université de Picardie Jules Verne (UPJV), a multidisciplinary university created at the end of the 1960s and established across several sites in the region (Amiens, Beauvais, Saint-Quentin, Laon, Creil, Soissons).

In Amiens, arts teaching is carried out by the UFR des Arts, located on the campus de la Citadelle, a former stronghold renovated into a university campus by the agence Renzo Piano Building Workshop and opened at the end of the 2010s. This campus brings together the fields of letters, languages, humanities and arts, within a notable architectural setting.

Programs and strengths

Three main licences structure the offering: Arts plastiques (visual practice combined with aesthetics and the history of forms), Arts du spectacle (theater, cinema and audiovisual depending on the track) and Histoire de l'art et archéologie. Master's programs and research tracks extend these licences, backed by laboratories in arts, aesthetics and history.

This is a university curriculum: the emphasis is on theory, analysis, writing and research methodology, with studio practice serving as support — a different profile from an art school, such as the ESAD d'Amiens, which awards the DNA and DNSEP.

The main advantages are access via Parcoursup without an entrance exam, university-level tuition fees, proximity to Paris and Lille, and a rich heritage environment (cathédrale d'Amiens, musée de Picardie) favorable to art history studies.
