Université de Corte

Université de Corse Pasquale Paoli

The only university in Corsica, the institution is located in Corte, in the center of the island. It bears the name of Pasquale Paoli, who had founded a first university in the city in the 18th century; the current university was re-established in the early 1980s.

It is a modestly sized multidisciplinary university, organized into faculties and institutes covering humanities, law and economics, science and technology, health, as well as professional training programs (IUT, IAE, INSPÉ).

Arts and humanities

The licence Arts is part of the component devoted to letters, languages, arts and humanities. The approach here is largely academic: art history, aesthetics, theory and analysis of works, visual culture, with, depending on the track, an opening toward performing arts, cinema, music or creative practices. This is therefore not an art school in the sense of the écoles supérieures d'art (DNA/DNSEP): the training mainly prepares students for continuing studies at the master's level (research, culture, mediation, teaching).

Strengths

A distinctive asset: its grounding in Corsican and Mediterranean studies (Corsican language and culture, heritage, anthropology, island arts and traditions), with specialized laboratories and a library. The reduced scale favors close follow-up and direct contact with teacher-researchers.

Worth considering if one seeks a theoretical training in arts within a university environment of human scale, rather than a curriculum centered on studio practice.
