Université de Franche-Comté - Site de Besançon

A multidisciplinary university in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté

The Université de Franche-Comté is a public university whose main campus is located in Besançon, with other sites in the region (Belfort, Montbéliard, Vesoul, Lons-le-Saunier). Artistic and cultural programs are run by the component dedicated to language, human and social sciences, located in the heart of the city.

Disciplines

In Besançon, the arts-related offering is organized around two Bachelor's degrees (licences) listed on Parcoursup: Arts du spectacle (theater, film and audiovisual, depending on the track) and Histoire de l'art et archéologie. These are university curricula: the emphasis is on analysis, history, theory, research methodology and writing, rather than on studio practice. These licences can be extended with Master's degrees (research, heritage, mediation, teaching professions) within the university or elsewhere.

Environment

Besançon offers a favorable context for these disciplines: a city listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site for the Citadelle and the Vauban fortifications, it houses the Musée des beaux-arts et d'archéologie, one of the oldest public museums in France, as well as an active theater and music scene. The metropolitan area is also home to a separate school of art, the ISBA, for those seeking a curriculum based on studio practice.

Public university setting: access to the licence via Parcoursup.
