Université de Lille

L'université de Lille is a multidisciplinary university of the Lille metropolitan area, born from the merger of the three former Lille universities. Its campus in Tourcoing hosts the arts programs, attached to the faculté des Humanités: this is where a large part of the arts curricula are concentrated, in a district marked by the presence of cultural institutions and venues dedicated to image and creative industries.

Programs and disciplines. The offer falls primarily under the university LMD curriculum (licence, master, doctorat): visual and plastic arts, film and audiovisual studies, performing arts, music and musicology, as well as related tracks such as art history and archaeology, or the humanities and social sciences. The teaching combines studio or stage practice with solid theoretical training (history, aesthetics, theories of art and image, research methodology).

Strengths. An active research environment in visual studies, cinema and performing arts; the possibility of continuing into master and doctorat; bridges toward cultural mediation, teaching and careers in culture. The proximity, in Tourcoing and across the metropolitan area, of cultural players and hubs related to image and digital technology fosters internships and projects.

Good to know. This is a university program: selection takes place via Parcoursup for the licence, and personal work occupies an important place. Those seeking a purely studio-based pedagogy should turn instead to an école d'art.
