Université de Lorraine - Site de Metz

L'Université de Lorraine is a multidisciplinary university born from the merger of the Nancy and Metz university institutions. Its Metz site, largely established on the campus du Saulcy, in the heart of the city, notably hosts the UFR Arts, Lettres et Langues, where artistic programs are grouped together.

Profile

This is a university curriculum, not an art school: the teaching combines supervised practice in studio or workshop settings with solid theoretical training (art history, aesthetics, film and theater studies, information and communication sciences). The pathway follows the licence – master – doctorat structure, with bridges toward careers in cultural mediation, teaching, research, and creation.

Disciplines

• Arts plastiques: drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, digital creation, accompanied by courses in the history and theory of art.
• Arts du spectacle: theater, cinema and audiovisual arts, with film analysis, dramaturgy, stage practices, and writing.

Continuing studies at the master's level (research, creation, cultural professions) and preparation for teaching exams are offered within the university.

Environment

Metz offers a favorable cultural context, with the Centre Pompidou-Metz, the Opéra-Théâtre, various stages and festivals, as well as proximity to Luxembourg, Germany, and Belgium — an asset for internships and cross-border mobility. The École supérieure d'art de Lorraine, also present in Metz, constitutes a distinct, more practice-oriented path.
