Université de Reims Champagne-Ardenne
The Université de Reims Champagne-Ardenne (URCA) is a public multidisciplinary university, based in Reims and at several sites across the region (Troyes, Châlons-en-Champagne, Charleville-Mézières, Chaumont, Épernay). It covers all major academic fields: sciences, health, law and economics, humanities and social sciences.
Artistic programs are run by the department dedicated to humanities and social sciences. The licence Arts offers a university-based approach to the arts, combining history and theory, analysis of works, aesthetics and supervised practice, within a framework where artistic teaching engages in dialogue with literature, languages and the humanities.
What sets the school apart: this is a university program, not an art school. Students mainly develop skills in analysis, research, writing and artistic culture, with the possibility of continuing on to a master's degree (research, mediation, careers in culture or teaching) and then a doctorate.
Strengths: backed by research laboratories in literature, arts and humanities; proximity to the cultural ecosystem of Reims (heritage, venues and institutions across the region); public tuition fees and pathways to a variety of career opportunities.
To check before applying: the exact titles of the programs and the share of artistic practice, which vary from year to year.
