Université Grenoble Alpes
A large multidisciplinary university
The Université Grenoble Alpes (UGA) emerged from the merger of Grenoble's universities, finalized in 2016. Its main campuses are located in Saint-Martin-d'Hères and Gières, in the Grenoble metropolitan area, and bring together all the major academic fields: sciences, technology, health, law, economics, humanities and social sciences, literature and arts.
Artistic and cultural programs
In the field of arts, UGA offers general licences, notably Arts du spectacle, Histoire de l'art et archéologie, and Lettres. These programs fall under the departments dedicated to languages, literature, performing arts and information-communication on one hand, and arts and humanities on the other.
The Arts du spectacle licence approaches theater and cinema from the perspective of history, aesthetics, and analysis of works, with practical work depending on the track. The Histoire de l'art et archéologie licence covers the major periods, from Antiquity to the contemporary era, and introduces students to the methods of archaeological investigation and image analysis.
Strengths
This is a university setting: the teaching is grounded in research (laboratories in theater studies, cinema, art history, heritage) and extended through master's programs, including toward careers in cultural mediation, heritage, teaching, and research.
The Grenoble environment — museums, national theaters, festivals, alpine and archaeological heritage — offers a valuable ground for internships and observation for students in these fields.
