Université Gustave Eiffel

Presentation

Université Gustave Eiffel is a multidisciplinary public institution established in 2020 from the merger of the former Université Paris-Est Marne-la-Vallée with partner organizations and schools, including IFSTTAR (research on transport and urban planning) and the École d'architecture de la ville & des territoires Paris-Est. Its main campus is located in the Cité Descartes, in Champs-sur-Marne / Marne-la-Vallée, a higher education hub served by the RER A (Noisy-Champs).

Profile and strengths

The university is defined by its unifying theme: the city of tomorrow, urban planning, mobility, and ecological and digital transitions. This orientation fosters a project-based culture and a strong grounding in territorial issues, which sets its environment apart from that of a traditional art school.

The programs cover science and technology, engineering, humanities and social sciences, as well as literature, arts and communication. A licence in Arts is offered within the component dedicated to literature, arts, communication and technologies: the curriculum combines artistic culture, history and theory, with practice supervised through workshops, and a strong sensitivity to media, image and digital technologies.

Good to know

As in any university licence in arts, equal emphasis is placed on critical reflection and writing as on studio practice: a relevant choice for students aiming for teaching, research, cultural mediation, or continuing on to a master's degree, less so for those seeking an exclusively practical training.
