Université Lumière Lyon 2 is a public multidisciplinary university oriented toward the humanities and social sciences, literature, the arts, law, and economics. It is spread across two main sites: the campus des Berges du Rhône, in the center of Lyon, and the campus Porte des Alpes, located in Bron, on the eastern outskirts of the metropolitan area, served by tramway.

The campus Porte des Alpes hosts a large part of the undergraduate teaching, in a campus-type environment (lecture halls, university library, sports facilities, student life services).

Art programs

Two bachelor's degrees are of particular interest to art students:

• Arts du spectacle, attached to the faculty devoted to letters, language sciences, and arts: theater studies, cinema and audiovisual depending on the track, with an articulation between theoretical analysis, history of forms, and supervised practice.
• Histoire de l'art et archéologie, which combines the study of works and periods (from Antiquity to the contemporary period) with an introduction to archaeological methods and fieldwork.

These programs, academic and not vocational in the sense of art schools, mainly prepare students for further studies at the master's level (research, cultural mediation, heritage, film and performing arts professions, teaching) and benefit from the density of Lyon's cultural fabric: museums, theaters, festivals, and structures related to image and heritage.
