Université Paul Valery - Montpellier 3

Presentation

Université Paul-Valéry Montpellier 3 is a public university devoted to letters, languages, arts, humanities and social sciences. Heir to Montpellier's long university tradition, it bears the name of the poet Paul Valéry and gathers its programs mainly on the campus of the route de Mende, north of the city.

The arts at Paul-Valéry

The institution offers a rare set of artistic bachelor's degrees united within the same campus: Arts plastiques, Cinéma et audiovisuel, Études théâtrales and Musique et musicologie. These programs continue through master's and doctoral levels.

The approach here is academic: history and theory of the arts, aesthetics, film analysis, dramaturgy, research methodology, complemented by practical workshops (directing, screenwriting, acting and staging, art workshop). This is therefore a different path from that of professional film schools: it trains researchers, teachers and critics as much as practitioners.

Research and environment

The arts and cinema programs are backed by recognized research laboratories in performing arts and in contemporary literature and arts, with conferences, journals and seminars open to advanced students.

Montpellier also offers a favorable context: film festivals, accredited venues, contemporary art institutions, an associative network—all opportunities for internships and first experiences.

To note: the bachelor's degrees are accessible via Parcoursup, without an artistic entrance exam.
